About Us
Traditionally dog clubs have held conformation dog shows to show off and compete with their breeding programs, to promote the purebred dog, and to further what these dogs were typically bred for. While the all-breed conformation shows are rich in tradition, formality, and purpose, many people feel that the world of dog sports also has great appeal as they seek to be more active with their dogs. Dog sports encompasses such events and activities as agility, disc dog, dock diving, canine freestyle and flyball. Additionally, many people find themselves with a companion dog of questionable heritage (i.e. your all american mixed breed) with the energy to accomplish great things. Dog sports allow dogs of all types to compete whether purebred or mixed breed.
This website was created to help advance dog sports in our area.

About Our Club
First Dog Sports was created to promote dog sports in the White Mountains. Its members are active primarily in agility training and competition, competing in DOCNA, USDAA, AKC and UKI. Additionally we have pursued information and experience in other dog sports such as herding, flyball, disc dog, and dock diving. We enjoy being with other people who like to be athletic with their dogs. First Dog Sports will be home to many trials and dog sports events in the future. Currently we host two DOCNA agility trials a year, Mother's Day weekend in May and Labor Day weekend in September. We are also a USDAA club affiliate and are hosting USDAA agility trials in June and September, including Junior Handler trials.

Our Training Philosophy
One of the things we have discovered through our own training and teaching experiences is the importance of proper teaching. Getting a good foundation is critical to positive successes and in creating a partnership your dog.
We are in the process of developing our Foundations curriculum which includes principles and concepts taught by Susan Garrett and influenced by Leslie McDevitt's Control Unleashed. We have members who have been to classes and seminars and have learned the importance of Foundations teaching particularly prior to teaching agility. We believe this class should preceed any other classes.
As we look forward to Spring/Summer 2011, FiDo Sports has flyball training sessions, USDAA agility trials, DOCNA agility trials, Junior Handler classes and trials, and many other events and classes planned!
